History Bee
What it is
The National History Bee is an academic competition that challenges students to demonstrate their knowledge of historical events, figures, and processes in a fast-paced, buzzer-based format. Open to students in grades 6–12, the competition begins with an online qualifying exam, advancing top scorers to Regional Finals and then the National Championships. Questions increase in difficulty throughout each round, rewarding players for both accuracy and speed. The season runs from fall through early summer, with the national competition typically held in June. Preparation opportunities include study guides, practice questions, and participation in school history clubs or mock competitions. Top-performing students may earn invitations to represent their school or state in international history competitions. There is also an elementary school division.
