Science Bee

What it is

The National Science Bee, hosted by the International Academic Competitions (IAC), is a nationwide contest that challenges elementary and middle school students to demonstrate their scientific knowledge across a wide range of topics. The competition follows a three-stage format beginning with the Online Regional Qualifying Exam (ORQE), followed by in-person or online Regional Finals, and culminating in the National Championships. Students compete in multiple-choice and buzzer-based rounds that test both depth and speed of knowledge. The competition season begins in the fall with ORQEs and progresses through spring, leading to the National Championships held annually over Memorial Day weekend in Orlando, Florida. Preparation opportunities include study guides, practice questions, school science clubs, and coaching sessions. Top students at Nationals may qualify for the International Environmental Science Olympiad, a five-day global event featuring competitive and experiential learning opportunities.
